Getting Started FAQs

Why won’t the start page links work?

Your macro security might be set to high. If the links on the home page don’t work then it is most likely a macro security setting problem. This software is digitally signed so select a setting that allows digitally signed macros to work. To change the macro security settings:

Excel 2007 – click the office button (icon in the far upper left corner of excel),
then click ‘Excel Options’, then click ‘Trust Center’, then click ‘Trust Center Settings’, then click ‘Macro Settings’, select the radio button  'Disable all macros with notification', click ‘OK’ , then click ‘OK’ again for ‘Excel Options’. Save and close the workbook, then reopen the workbook and you should now be able to use the software. (You may need to select Trust this Publisher at start up)

Excel 2010 – click the File menu ,then click ‘Excel Options’, then click ‘Trust Center’, then click ‘Trust Center Settings’, then click ‘Macro Settings’, select the radio button  'Disable all macros with notification', click ‘OK’ , then click ‘OK’ again for ‘Excel Options’. Save and close the workbook, then reopen the workbook and you should now be able to use the software.

Excel 2013 – click the File menu ,then click ‘Excel Options’, then click ‘Trust Center’, then click ‘Trust Center Settings’, then click ‘Macro Settings’, select the radio button  'Disable all macros with notification', click ‘OK’ , then click ‘OK’ again for ‘Excel Options’. Save and close the workbook, then reopen the workbook and you should now be able to use the software.

Excel 2016 - click the File menu ,then click ‘Excel Options’, then click ‘Trust Center’, then click ‘Trust Center Settings’, then click ‘Macro Settings’, select the radio button  'Disable all macros with notification', click ‘OK’ , then click ‘OK’ again for ‘Excel Options’. Save and close the workbook, then reopen the workbook and you should now be able to use the software.

Note: When you open Excel 2010 or 2013 you may be able to click ‘Enable Content’ and not have to change the macro settings.

These toolkits work on these operating systems: Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10.

These toolkits work with Microsoft Excel 2007, 2010, 2013 and 2016

Note: On 64 bit machines, Microsoft Office normally installs in both the X86 program folder and the (64bit) program folder, this allows all of our code to work just fine. When Microsoft Office is installed in only the (64bit) program folder our software has some code that will not work. So at this time we do not recommend installing SHF in a 64bit only Microsoft Office environment. In the future we plan on offering a 64bit version for Excel 2013.

How do we navigate on the Home Page?

General Navigation

All three tookits will open on the home page when you start up the program, but only the toolkits you own will be enabled.

From the home page you can select a single toolkit by clicking the Open Toolkit link which will open that toolkit and hide the other two toolkits. To open all the toolkits again click the Open All Toolkits link in the Evaluate your Finances section.

To navigate to a worksheet click on the worksheet link like Budget (out) on the home page name and it will take you to the worksheet in this case the Budget Plan worksheet will open.

On each worksheet you have green underlined Navigation links in the upper left hand corner to navigate to related worksheets and the blue underlined Application links in the upper right corner of the worksheet are for working with the worksheet you are on.
